Thank you for this! What a story your shared! This account of Boyce from your mother's memory is priceless and pinpoints the sacrifice made by the families of the fallen. Thank you Boyce and all of the Scruggs family for giving your all for others.

I am so glad you have a blog. You are a gifted writer with so much encouragement and wisdom to share. You know, writing can really be a ministry. Get the TRUTH out there and pray that God would work in people's hearts. There is only ONE HOPE: our Maker, Savior, and King, Jesus Christ, who gave His all for others.

How we do take for granted our freedom and the many lives lost so we can be free. Thanks for this post. It is beautiful and I learned so many new things about my family!

Susan Avriett

Good morning Cate,
You don't know me, but I went two years of High School with Lane. My name is Susan Dowson Avriett. I live in Humble, Texas. What a lovely tribute to your Uncle Boyce. My father died when I was 9 months old, so I didn't know him either. My son Bruce is a Major in the Air Force and has been deployed 7 times to the Middle East. God has kept him safe each time through answered prayers. He has a plan for all of us and someday we will understand the plan he had for your uncle and my father. Thanks again and please keep these beautiful words coming.

Susan, thank you so much for your comment! It means so much for you to take the time to leave one. And you are right, one day we will understand everything, and with God it will all make sense! Blessings to your wonderful son for serving in the military!! I will tell Lane you remember him, and Im sure he will remember you.....Blessings to you, Cate
